Inspired by her Uzbek grandmother’s indomitable strength and 1930s glamour, Cheyenne Morris, the designer of luxury shoe line Tashkent—named after the capital city of Uzbekistan—is giving the shoe landscape a distinctive new silhouette.

While she majored in sculpture at the School of Visual Arts, Morris used her local cobbler’s equipment in her off-hours to create handmade, one-of-a-kind shoe creations when she was just 19. She refined her designs quickly, and just a few years later, Morris manufactured two seasons of her own line which sold to stores like Scoop and Tracey Ross.

So I traveled to South Beach a few weeks ago, and had an amazing time at one of my most favorite hotels, The National.  I took only one picture and that was of my view, which, if I had that view everyday I think I would be a totally laid-back zen surfer girl, who never wore shoes, much less thought about what being barefoot and wearing flip-flops said about me. But I digress.What I wanted to share with you is the brilliance of the National. I love it because it is ensconced between the Sagamore amazing art hotel, and the Delano, yet it is totally understated, mellow and low-pro.  You can get your sushi on at Blue Door or your art on by simply going next door, or you can chill. For this reason alone, The National is a little gem in the South Beach scene. Add an amazing infinity pool, delicious tuna tartare, lemon water and big fluffy towels by the pool and on the beach, and those little dark chocolate Ghiardelli mints on your 600 thread count pillow at night and breakfast on the terrace, and well it is really a little haven.
