S&TC FAVORITE SHOE MOMENT
One of our favorite shoe moments in Sex & the City (the series), is the day Miranda and Carrie are in shoe shop and Carrie realizes that she has spent so much money on shoes during her time in Manhattan, that she could have bought an apartment with her shoe budget. She is literally the woman who lives in her shoe.
We asked the ever-fabulous Budget Fashionista, Kathryn Finney, what was the most amount of money she ever spent on a pair of shoes.
Here’s what she said:
It was around $250-$300. It was a pair of Charles Jordan boots from Nordstrom and I bought them about 15 years ago. Back in the day, sistas with big feet were pretty much sh*t out of luck. This was probably the first pair of shoes available in a size 11 in the state of Minnesota that didn’t look like orthopaedic shoes. At the time the only place to find shoes in size 11 was Nordstrom or the granny shoe shops. It’s hard to rock a fresh pair of Girbaud jeans with a pair of nursing shoes! When I finally got them I felt really good that they weren’t mauve with thick plastic soles!
DESIGNER PROFILE OF THE WEEK
Tashkent by Cheyenne Morris is new luxury shoe line that is shaking footwear shapes up. I had a chance to meet up with her at her New York showroom a few weeks back and was absolutely slayed by the cheeky details, yet sophisticated and sculputural silhouettes she was showing for Fall. Can you say fur-lined ankle booties with cutouts? Personally, I have worn The Schevchenko almost everyday since I got them. They are the perfect Spring complement to any ensemble. Get the full 411 on Tashkent in my JCREPORT profile.

The most I have ever spent on a pair of shoes was $185. They were a pair of Betsey Johnson shoes. Black, with little red flowers all over them. They were just so cute and different I had to have them. I am a huge fan of Betsey Johnson.

The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was $350.00. Almost 20 years ago. At Bergdorf-Goodman in New York. They were a pair of ecru leather pumps with a natural wood heel. Probably the most comfortable pair of shoes I have ever worn. Ever!! I had those shoes re-soled three times. I had the heels replaced twice. I finally had to part with them (after many tears and cocktails with girlfriends) over a very moving memorial service. There was literally nothing left to these poor, once-beautiful shoes. They were my once-in-a-lifetime pair of shoes. I have never worn anything since that felt that good. Sigh. But I continue my search, hoping in vain to find another pain that even comes close!

Dear Miss Megan…
I am getting married 1 month from today and have found the perfect shoes! The problem is that they are not in the slightest comfortable. They are strappy heeled sandals with every strap encrusted with crystals beautiful but painful due to the straps cutting into my foot. Is there anything I can do to make them more tolerable or do I have to accept a fate of flip flops for dancing?
Thanks!

PS. My favorite shoe moment from S&TC city is when she gets mugged and she hollers “he stole my Choo” So clever!

The most I ever spent…300$ on a pair of knee high brown leather boots from Sole Sisters in Northville. Love them still!
May 7th, 2008 at 9:31 am
The most I spent on a pair of shoes is $575.00 for a pair of sale gucci’s, just to spite the sales girl who had already pegged me for a window shopper. A year later, I loaned them to a friend in college and she shoe-napped ever-so-graciously. She never answered my calls after that, or anything. I haven’t spent that much on shoes since. =( Sad, I know. Honestly, what kind of woman messes with another woman’s shoes?

It’s no surprise that I’m obsessed with shoes, coming from a young fashionista living in the Big Apple. Just like Carrie, I too have spend way too much time and money on shoes. However, I do pride myself on finding fabulous shoes…at fabulous prices. However, I once spent $600 on a pair of Miu Miu black suede wedges from Bergdorf Goodman. They cast a spell on me and I wasn’t strong enough to resist their elegant and dashing good looks!

My big spend was a pair of IC booties from Schuh — I was in London and I just had to! Spending in pounds really makes you feel the sock to the wallet, too.

As I get older, I realize why shoes are so appealing–they’re for the body, but not of the body the way other couture is…..
anyway, less than $100–about 85 I think, on a pair of gorgeous, entirely wearable but glamorous sofft shoes.
LOVE THEM SHOES!!!

I loved this episode of S&TC!! The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was $760-Christian Louboutin, but they were so fabulous!! They were just begging to come home with me. I think I’d rather have gorgeous shoes anyday than an apartment, maybe thats why I’m still a renter huh? hahaha

The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was $500.00 I would spend more if I really liked them cause I love shoes
May 7th, 2008 at 12:44 pm
$205 for a pair of Grazia Sasha bridal shoes… and I wasn’t even the bride! They are in my closet under the raspberry bridesmaid dress. Thanks Cousin Sue!
May 7th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
I hope I am doing this correctly…what a great idea!! A favorite Sex & the City Shoe moment…..”hello lover” as Carrie gazes longingly at a pair of shoes in the window.
The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes??? About $300, on a pair of black canvas sling back heels from Bonwit Teller. They had a stacked heel (not wedge) and looked great with everything. I can’t even remember the brand! I wore them to death, and then sadly after childbirth (as many things do) they didn’t fit me anymore! I kept them anyway (along with my prom dress, which means that I will NEVER get back into them).

OMG I love that episode of SATC. Best episodic series ever. So my shoe fetish has gotten me into quite the money pit. I love shoes, especially the very overpriced ones. It literally came down to me eating or buying a pair of major shoes. These were gorgeous Bruno Frissoni stiletto heels that were on sale. It was only 30% but that never happens so I had to get them…who cares if they are practical or not, I needed them and every time I wear them I think about those 15 days I was eating egg salad.

Speaking of the perils of big feet…I was once invited to a party while visiting friends in Spain, but needed to find the perfect shoe to go with my great new dress. I went into shop after shop, only to discover that women’s shoes in Spain are not made up to my size - 9.5! The store owners just laughed when I asked if they carried my size. I guess Spanish women have tiny feet!
I eventually found one store that had one pair of shoes in my size, and luckily they matched the dress! But I will no longer count on being able to shoe shop in Europe…

I love the episode where Charlotte gets free shoes from the foot fetish salesman!
Hmm, not counting ski boots and hiking boots, the most I’ve paid for shoes is about $130 for a classic pair of leather boots.
May 7th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
The most I spent on shoes were actually a pair of boots from Banana Republic a few years ago. The are black, knee high stilettos that were a little over $200. I am a former soccer player so I have very large calves, and these boot were the only ones in that style that I could find to go over them. I was so excited to be able to wear them with skirts, and I still rock them every fall season! My email is ann_marie_cardinale@yahoo.com

The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was about $150-$200 for a pair of brown, ankle high Nicole Miller boots I found back in the sale room of a DSW. I was so excited because I found a great shoe for a great price. Quite an accomplishment for a budget fashionista such as myself!

Back in the 70’s I was in highschool and the wedge shoe came out. I found a cute pair in black and white in the shoe store downtown. I spent my hard earned babysitting money on these to die for shoes. Total cost $65. I also spent the better part of the week trying to learn how to walk in them.
May 7th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
As a self-described shoe-nista, I’m embarrassed to admit that the most expensive pair of shoes I’ve ever purchased was a pair of plain, black, waterproof Timberland boots. THey were $120. I wear them when it is snowing and I’ve had them for nearly nine years. The fronts are scuffed, but they keep my feet dry and warm. I affectionately called them my “sh** kicking boots.”
May 7th, 2008 at 9:03 pm
The most I ever spent on shoes was a pair of Loeffler Randall boots for $675. I’d never spent that much on anything before except for furniture and a computer, and after I bought them, I fretted for days. After all they were purple, and how impractical was that? Well, now it’s over a year later, and I don’t regret it a bit. I wore the hell out of those boots, and I still love them.
May 7th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
WoW great SATC episode.
I think it would have to be a pair of Jeffery Campbell boots. They were about$175. It may not seem like a lot for some but I was a lowly scrimping college student at the time. What was in style was the 2nd or 3rd? incarnation of the whole slouchy yet knee high boot with jeans tucked inside style and I HAD to have the perfect boots to complete the look!!!!
I just typed in my card info and pressed submit really quick before I talked myself out of it lol and 3 years later NO REGRETS they were really a great choice and are still in style IMO
May 7th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
Oh, the most I spent on shoes was $500 for a pair of fire engine red Halston stilettos back in the 90’s, they kill me but man they are gorgeous & I still wear them!
May 7th, 2008 at 11:00 pm
$850 - the best investment I have ever made for jewels for my feet. It was a beautiful spring day in NYC and the sweet older gentleman opened the door for me to enter Manolo heaven - I was the kid in a shoe candy store! I chose a cute t-strap sandal with kitten heel and across the t from the toes all the way up and across the front t are small gold daisy flowers and in the center are small diamontes! Ohmigod! I was in love and I wore them to death last summer, they came to Australia with me (I am an Aussie living in the US) and back here again, I was the envy of every girl I met … and each time I open the doors of my shoe wardrobe the catch my eye and I am reminded of that special day in Spring 07 when I met my lovlies!

Meghan, I have watched every single episode of S&TC. I really enjoyed the show and I’m looking forward to the movie. The most I have ever spent in a pair of shoes is about $125. I would love to own a really nice pair of shoes, but I really can’t afford it. Tight budget. But a girl can dream. Great site, keep the stories coming.
May 8th, 2008 at 10:58 am
Meghan,
I just found your site and love it! The most I’ve spent on a pair of shoes is $300. However, I think I have more pride in finding nice, expensive shoes on sale for a bargain price. My greatest find is a pair of melon-colored suede slingbacks from the Ralph Lauren Collection. They retailed for nearly $800 but I got them for $100. I’ve received so many compliments on them, despite the 4″ heel!

The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was probably money I never ended up spending. I should explain that I used to shop with my mom, a compulsive shopper, compulsive enough that she keeps a small pair of scissors near her closet just for snipping off price tags. So sometimes she would choose a pair of shoes for me and then offer to buy them. {I am pretty sure this was due to her disapproval of most of my shoe choices — we once stood for 20 minutes arguing about whether I needed another pair of red boots. Yes, of COURSE I won.} So, I can tell you the price tags but oftentimes it wasn’t me paying! I loved a pair of red silk Manolo Blahniks with rhinestones on them; I still display them.
I love brightly colored shoes and cowboy boots; these days I’m especially fond of a pair of Moroccan flats, orange leather, with the pointy toes and the curvy flourishes — very Aladdin. I also own a pair of Icon mules with a photograph imprinted on the leather — love the image, but realized later it may not be great shoe karma to wear an image of men running away from me …
LOVE the footwear of S&TC. I liked very much when Carrie registered for a pair of shoes.
May 9th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Thanks for making this contest! Great idea for any shoe lover. The most I’ve spent on shoes was $525 for black suede Via Spiga boots. The style is very classic, heel is not too high, not too low, pointed toe which is flattering for short little me…and they look great with everything! My favorite shoe moment on S&TC was Carrie looking longingly at a pair of shoes in the window and saying, “Hello lover!”
May 9th, 2008 at 10:29 am
My fav SATC shoe moment was when Carrie was wearing her fab hot pink heels out on the town for one last night with Big, and then Miranda’s water breaks all over them - tragedy!! I have spent $120 on a pair of Nine West boots, that was probably my high. Rather than owning one pair of Christian Louboutin heels (which I swear I will buy anyways one day), I own instead 25+ pairs of stilletos from Nine West!
May 9th, 2008 at 10:53 am
The most i ever spent on a pair of shoes was an embarassing $600 on a gorgeous pair of jimmy choos…but i think sjp would approve.
May 9th, 2008 at 11:10 am
The most I ever spent on a pair of shoes was at the Manolo Blahnik sample sale - a NYC institution. It’s a bit of a madhouse, so you feel kind of bad still spending that much money while women are sort of pushing each other over. They are black slingback spike heels made of suede and patent leather. I don’t think I found an outfit to go with them for another two years or so as they were very slinky so kind of summer, but with a winter feel (due to the suede) so that was a challenge. I’ve mentally blocked the price out, but they were something shy of $300.

Unfortunately, I have spent WAY TOO MUCH on shoes! I think if I add all the costs of the shoes together I could have bought a house!!
I stopped spending on shoes and now I NEED SOME!!!!!!!!!
Not only that, but I do an UGLY SHOE POST on my blog, and the funniest things are the ugly shoes I have paid for!!

my favorite moment is when carrie goes to her friends party and someone steals her shoes. this is the episode where she states that married people and people with children always get so much. she wonders why can’t there be the same type of celebration for people who deciede to stay single?so carrie registers for the shoes and the shoes only and has her girlfriend replace her shoes. i love this because i am also single and amazing and i totally agree with this idea.single people get screwed.
the most ive ever spent on a pair of shoes is about 200 dollars.
and im definitly a shoe lover believe it …

The most I have ever spent on a pair of shoes was $170, and I spent it today on a pair of Betsey Johnson’s Cayden stiletto-heel pumps. Jill, just like you I love Betsey Johnson! Although this is the most I’ve spent so far on a pair of shoes, my passion for shoes is growing, and so is the amount I’m willing to spend on a beautiful pair.

Everyday while walking work work, I pass by an extremely trendy boutique. Everyday, I would drool over a pair of Patent Leather Turquoise pumps made by Marc by Marc Jacobs. About three days ago, I said screw it, and went in “just to try them on.” Of course, as soon as I stood up in them, I knew these had to be mine. I spent $225 and wore them, a black dress and a huge smile out on Friday.
It was a great decision.

I also loved the missing Blahniks baby shower episode & definitely relate to the “Single & Fabulous Shoe Registry”! I inherited shoephilia from Mom. Shoe of choice: Blahniks, but have affinity for all the “good” ones. Most paid: $1,000 for a Swarovsky crystal Rene Caovilla I’ve never worn…impulse buy. Like lint rollers at the cash register. So I, too, justify often & ever so wisely that I can always eat next week. Great for stick figure, but don a 9.5 pump & I’m closely resembling Olive Oil. I’ve broken leg/ankle/foot twice.
And although I weed them out often, they must breed, as shoes cont’ to dictate where I live & moving them is an ordeal. In a new loft, an improperly installed “wall” of shoes fell on me. While sprawled on floor, I could only think of the irony & how funny my obit would read. I must mention that Manolo Blahnik truly stole my heart when asked by interviewer (in early STC days) if he resented being ID’d with controversial STC, esp Samantha-types of dubious character. He quickly replied that he was not only flattered, as he designs sexy shoes, but he also loves slutty Samantha-types.

I hope I win!

Alas I have big wide feet and getting shoes like those that Carrie wears is impossible - and even if Maonolo did them in big sizes I don’t have her delicate bone structure to carry it off - sigh. However I have compensated for my shoe desires by making them in clay and the most I have ever sold a pair of ceramic shoes for is £500 (that’s about $1000) - you can’t wear them but then they never wear out!
May 13th, 2008 at 10:22 am
Being who I am I am always looking for a bargain, however, I have dropped about $350 on Stuart Weitzman stretchy suede tall boots more than once…they are prime!
May 13th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
the most i ever spent (yet) was $215 on the most perfect flat black boots that i had been coveting for ages! my boyfriend is moving in soon though and i know he’s going to be shocked when he learns the true depths of my shoe collection…
May 13th, 2008 at 7:57 pm
The moment Carrie realized how much she had invested in her shoes over the years could have actually paid for a down payment on another place to live was pretty funny. I also really enjoyed the fashion closet and her dream pair of Manolo mary janes. Also, the time Carrie’s shoes were stolen and she in turn registered for that same pair to get her point across about single people…Carrie is just so clever.
Can’t wait for SATC to come out!!!
I can’t afford the really nice designer type shoes, but the most I have spent is probably just over $100.
May 14th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
The most expensive pair I’ve ever gotten were from Manolo Blahnik… The same exact ones that Miss Carrie Bradshaw had had stolen from her at the celebration of the arrival of “little boy Bronson(son of Chuck and Kiara)” in the episode, “A Womens Right to Shoes”.
I don’t mean to intrude but Mandy(Comment #3) got her shoe moments mixed up…
When she gets mugged they weren’t Jimmy Choo’s, they in fact Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals that she got half off at a sample sale and it was in episode, “What Goes Around, Comes Around”. She actually hollars, “Somebody stop him… he took my strappy sandals”.
In the episode “Where there’s Smoke”. She attends a party with Bill Kelley and had to leave before midnight to catch the Staten Island Ferry. As she ran out of the cab, the Ferry is pulling away and she yells “wait, wait, I lost my Choo”.
